A career spent building systems that manage data—and an evolving interest in building systems that help us decide what to do with it.
My professional career in technology began in the U.S. Air Force, where I developed and maintained Department of Defense database applications supporting operations around the world. It was my introduction not only to software development, but to building systems where reliability, accuracy, and accountability mattered.
At Oracle, I moved from developing applications to helping organizations solve larger enterprise problems. I co-developed Oracle Risk Navigator, an enterprise risk-management application, and served as a technical lead for product development and customer engagements.
I supported production databases and Banner ERP systems, gaining experience with the operational side of large institutional data systems.
Consulting expanded my work across Oracle development, database administration, performance tuning, business intelligence, and application development for a range of organizations.
I founded Clearwater Technical Group to help higher-education organizations move from legacy client/server systems to Oracle-based web platforms. As principal consultant, I was responsible for architecture, development, client relationships, and delivery.
Alongside consulting and higher-education work, I taught professional courses in database design, Oracle development, and web technologies. Teaching became an important part of how I learned to communicate technical ideas, mentor others, and make complicated systems understandable.
This role brought together fifteen years of enterprise databases, higher education, consulting, and teaching. I built technical solutions for university clients using SQL, PL/SQL, Cognos, and Crystal Reports while training and mentoring campus teams.
In 2016, an opportunity brought together two things that had been part of my life for decades: data and baseball. I joined Major League Baseball's Baseball Data group, working on systems supporting traditional statistics and Statcast data.
I led database migrations from Oracle to PostgreSQL in AWS and later Google Cloud SQL; designed a cloud data warehouse supporting live statistical search; and built Python pipelines integrating relational databases, APIs, BigQuery, and cloud storage.
MLB changed the direction of my career. Baseball stopped being something I coached, played, watched, and loved outside work. It became the domain in which I applied engineering and data every day, pushing me further toward data science, forecasting, and decision-making.
In late 2024, I joined Swish, continuing my work at the intersection of large-scale data engineering and sports. My work focuses on reliable data pipelines and infrastructure supporting real-time sports analytics.
